Yakusugi is a Japanese cedar tree which grows on the mountain 500 meters above the sea level.
In Japan, the term “Yakusugi” also refers to more than 1000 year-old trees. Yakusugi is the symbol of eternity, long life and prosperity.
In general, the Japanese cedar lives for about 500 years, however Yakusugi trees live much longer: many of Yakusugi trees have been around for more than 2000 years.
Yakushima island and its forest have been natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1993: it is absolutely not allowed to cut Yakusugi nowadays!
This super special edition pen is made from stumps of previously fallen trees. These trees are called Domaiboku, which literally means buried trees in the ground.
It takes 20 years for these Domaiboku trees to be naturally air-dried. It is the reason why the number of Yakisugi pens is extremely limited. MSRP: 650 USD.

The wood shavings that you can see in the small bag are the Yakusugi shavings from this specific pen! (yes, crazy, I know!) You will receive it too, in a small marked package.
The pattern is beautiful for lovers of natural wood, and the feel in hand is amazing. The cap open and closes confidently with a satisfying sound. You can see and feel the quality in the making of this pen, every detail has been closely examined.

Since this is a rare pen, I didn’t ink it to test it, but I can do so at your request (simply add it as an instruction/message when checking out, or message me). If you ask me to, I’ll tune and smooth (only if there’s bad feedback or misaligned tines) the nib if necessary (Platinum has great Quality Control in general, but we never know) free of charge, and ink it to test the feed too. I’ll of course clean everything before sending it to you. Great experience guaranteed that way.
